The Chronicle

The Chronicle is the club’s quarterly journal. It covers a wide range of topics, from the Victorian era (and before) right up to the present. Members receive four issues of The Chronicle each year. Some articles are reprinted here on the web site.

Back Issues of The Chronicle

Recent back issues of The Chronicle are available from the Secretary-Treasurer for $5.00 each, postpaid in the U.S. Inquire about availability.

Penny Red Stars Used Abroad by Mike Batty

Mike Batty’s well-illustrated book is available free as a download using the links below. This is from his introduction:

The catalogue listings in Gibbons or Stoneham of Penny Red Stars used abroad are incomplete, referring to 1d red, 1d red-brown or 1d rose-red by year, with incomplete identification and with no reference to the printing plates. The Stoneham editors are to be commended for the inclusion within their 2006 catalogue of a Used Abroad section, so ably compiled by Paul Dauwalder. Such an addition would also be welcomed within the Stanley Gibbons Great Britain Specialised Stamp Catalogue. This illustrated record of the groups and printing plates of Penny Red Stars used abroad attempts to fill some of this information deficit.

Copyrights originally retained by Lord Byron Stamps (the business name of Tom Current) were generously donated to the GBCC. New GBCC members receive a 15% discount during their first year in the club. The sections are available to GBCC members only as shown below. Prices are postpaid in the U.S. for orders of $20 or greater. For smaller orders and orders to locations outside the U.S., postage is determined by weight.

If all sections are purchased in one order, the total postpaid price in the U.S. is $155. If purchased during the first year of membership, the price is $132. These are discounts from the total price of $174.

If all sections except Numeral Cancels are purchased in one order, the total postpaid price in the U.S. is $110. If purchased during the first year of membership, the price is $94. These are discounts from the regular price of $121.
